Weekly Regional Hay Market Update

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: "Compared to last Friday, we had little over 30,000 tons trade. Premium dairy and export alfalfa was steady to firm. Premium quality dairy hay sold from $200 in large square bales. Fair and good export hay sold from $160 to $180 in large square bales. Small square retail alfalfa sold from $250 to $260. Orchard grass for retail/stable market small square bales sold for $260 to $275. Timothy grass for export good and premium large square bales sold from $160 to $165.

In Idaho compared to previous week, premium and good Alfalfa continues to be weak. Trade was slow to moderate last week. Heavy supplies of feeder hay continue to hamper the market. Alfalfa large square rated premium sold for $175 per ton. Alfalfa small squares rated premium sold for $200 per ton picked up out of the field.

In Oregon, trade activity remained generally steady in comparison to the previous week. Mid-quality alfalfa in Lake County trended higher compared to previous week's prices. In Eastern Oregon premium small square contracted bales of alfalfa sold for $200 per ton. Harney County reported good/premium large square barley sold for $140 per ton. In Klamath Basin supreme small square alfalfa sold for $220 per ton.
