Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Tiffany Smit with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Smit: “We had 6,720 tons of hay trade. Compared to last Friday, alfalfa was generally steady in a light test. Trade was slow with light to moderate demand with exporters slowed down this week after China devalued their currency earlier in the week. Timothy hay was steady, demand was light to moderate. Retail hay was also steady. Demand remains good. Alfalfa large squares supreme quality $240 delivered.
In Idaho compared to previous week, premium and good Alfalfa continues to be weak. Trade was slow last week. Alfalfa large square rated supreme sold for $170 per ton. Alfalfa large squares rated good sold for $130 per ton. Timothy large square rated good old crop was $130 per ton.
In Oregon, trade activity remained generally steady in comparison to the previous week. Many producers have decided to hold on to their hay for now, in hopes of higher prices. In Eastern Oregon supreme large square premium/supreme rated bales of alfalfa sold for $210 per ton for export. Harney County reported premium/supreme large square alfalfa sold for $220 per ton. In Klamath Basin premium small square alfalfa for export sold for $200 per ton.
