Junior Angus Member Reports from National Jr. Angus Show

Angus enthusiasts of all ages are in Tulsa, OK this week for the 2015 National Junior Angus Show. I visited with Washington Jr. Angus member 13-year old Matt Rosman from Creston, Washington who was at the show and participated in the extemporaneous speaking contest. He has been showing Angus cattle for the past seven years, but this was his first trip to the National Jr. Show. He shares what impressed him about the show
Rosman: “How much bigger there is and how many more breeders there are than in the Pacific Northwest. How many people come with a lot of cows. There is so much you can learn here. I’ve seen a bunch of fitters that come here and how fast and how well they fit clip their calves. They can talk on the phone and clip their calves. Its a really big learning experience. ”
There were more than 1200 cattle entered in the show from 650 junior Angus members from 35 states. In addition to the cattle show there is the national showmanship contest and the various individual and state contests held throughout the week. Rosman shares his own goals for his Angus herd
Rosman: “Get my herd to be larger and then raise my own calves so I can have bred and owned. Then eventually I just be able to raise my calves and come to larger shows and compete with them.”
He added that participating in the national showmanship contest is another goal.
