Ag Summit Concludes

Ag Summit Concludes

Ag Summit Concludes. I'm Greg Martin with Lacy Gray for Colorado Ag Today.

CSU's Agricultural Innovation Summit wrapped up last Friday and by all accounts was a big success. The Summit featured speakers on a multitude of topics including the very hot topic of water or lack thereof.

GRAY: On Thursday, the CSU ballroom was packed to listen to Gov. John Hickenlooper talk about ag issues from his perspective and he did spend some time talking about water issues.

HICKENLOOPER: We're hard at work now, we've got a draft of a statewide water plan for the first time in our history. Water is the lifeblood of Colorado and the American West. It's the lifeblood of everything we grow out here and yet, more than ever we need to work together when we are dealing with it.

MARTIN: John Stulp has been working with the Governor and heading up the Water Plan and we will talk with John tomorrow.

GRAY: Gov. Hickenlooper also talked about a new partnership in the ag community and other new plans.

HICKENLOOPER: We're proud to be able to announce a partnership with the Western Dairy Association in Fort Carson, making sure that veterans can find jobs in the agricultural industry. Western Dairy is going to compile opportunities. Also the Colorado Agricultural Leadership Program, CALP, another tool we've got in our belt. It develops and enhances leadership in both men and women committed to ag and rural communities.

MARTIN: The Summit featured industry experts from across Colorado speaking on everything from the dairy industry to maintaining water supplies for agriculture.

And that's Colorado Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
