Restoring Grizzlies & FarmsNext

Restoring Grizzlies & FarmsNext. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

If you have considered farming as a vocation Rogue Farms Corps’ FarmsNext program is taking applications for the 2015 program. FarmsNext is an immersive experience that will leave students with a deeper understanding of sustainable agriculture, a foundation of entrepreneurial skills, and practical knowledge to plan for and start their own farming operation. Application deadline is March 1st. See Rogue Farms Corps’ website for details.

Their big, furry and can scare the pants off most sane people. Grizzlies are being looked at as part of a restoration project in the North Cascades. The Department of the Interior will be holding a series of informational open houses to help it determine whether to take an active role in grizzly restoration. Okanogan County Commissioner Jim DeTro says this is an “end run” attempt by conservation groups.

DeTRO: It’s the pressure by all of the NGO’s putting on the feds. There’s a law in the State of Washington thanks to Senator Morton that grizzlies can’t be reintroduced in the state so they’re trying to do an end run with federal dollars. Right now they’re trying to gather all the scientific information; best available science that they can and most of that’ll be lies.

That’s today’s Northwest Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
