Priaxor for Potatoes

Priaxor for Potatoes

Priaxor for Potatoes. I’m Greg Martin with Colorado Ag Today.

It’s about time to get potatoes in the ground if old wisdoms hold true and that also means having to deal with issues like fungus. Jennifer Holland, Product Manager, BASF who talks about their Priaxor fungicide.

HOLLAND: One of the most challenging things about growing potatoes when I talk to growers is the number of different diseases that they have to manage and I think last year particularly in some of the eastern parts of the geography, lat blight caught a lot of people off-guard but every year guys are dealing with early blight and black dot and of course rhizoctonia in furrow and white mold. And those really challenge the productivity of the potato crop every year and the exciting thing is we’ve got Priaxor fungicide coming online in 2015.

Priaxor effectively controls a number of different diseases in potatoes including rhizoctonia and early blight. Holland says Priaxor has other benefits as well.

HOLLAND: One of the things we’re really excited about is our advanced plant health platform and Priaxor is one of the key cornerstones of that platform and it provides increased growth efficiency as well as stress tolerance for potato growers. And the way that that really works is above and beyond disease control you’re going to see increased growth efficiency from photosynthesis really during those critical stages of plant development.

She elaborates on that enhanced photosynthesis.

HOLLAND: And that increased energy can potentially lead to healthier potatoes and potentially more yield at the end of season.
