Caramel Apple Recall & What's Up with Gas Prices

Caramel Apple Recall & What's Up with Gas Prices. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

The recent caramel apple listeria scare has resulted in three California companies issuing voluntary recalls of their caramel apple products. Nearly 30 people have been sickened and five have died from the listeria outbreak linked to prepackaged caramel apples. So far the FDA has not come to any conclusions regarding the issue except to say that the listeria has to be a result of the production of the caramel apples since there has never been any documented cases of people being sickened by eating whole, fresh apple. The FDA is expected to release their findings this week.

Gas prices continue to fall here in the northwest and across the nation which was great news for holiday travelers. Marie Dodds with AAA Oregon says we can expect to see prices drop just a bit more.

DODDS: We should continue to see gas prices fall and often times it can take a week or two for lower crude oil prices to work their way down to consumers and crude oil prices have continued to fall over the last couple of weeks and so we could go down in retail pump prices by another dime or so over the next couple of weeks based on what crude has done in the last few days. At this point it looks like overall that gas prices in 2015 should be lower on average than they were in 2014.

And that's good news for the New Year!
