Welcome to Vine to Wine, this is your host Linda Moran. As many of you know my new favorite wine is quite often the wine that is in my glass at the time. Because quite honestly I just don't drink wine that I don't like. Today we are going to talk about a wine from Clos du Val Winery in Napa Valley California.
Founded in 1972 Clos Du Val is to me a bit of a well kept secret. Not that most prople aren't familiar with this prestigious California winery. It just that I don't think many people get to taste the wines as they age. Several years ago I attended a library tasting of Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Clos Du Val. What struck me most was how beautifully they seemed to age. And the prices were so reasonable I thought there was an error. But no there wasn't so I invested in a few bottles of wine to lay down in my cellar. Last week we opened the 1992 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon because I thought it would go well with a special meal that I had prepared. It was not just good it was superb! These wines age with such grace. The wine was smooth and silky and contained so many subtle aromas and flavors all knit together in the most pleasing fashion. I hovered over the wine and truly savored each drink. It is definitely my new favorite wine. I don't know that this specific 1992 vintage is available but it would be worth an internet search. The wine has years still left to go and it made me know that I can continue aging the rest of the wines that I have from Clos Du Val. Visit their website at closduval.com.
