Oregon Wolf Update 2

We are continuing our conversation with Oregon Rancher and one of the founders of the Oregon Wolf Education Kerry Tienhaara.
With 13 Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife depredation investigations in Wallowa County alone this year. Four were confirmed as a wolf kills, one was probable, two possible/unknown and six were determined to be other.
One frustration from the ranching community Tienhaara says is that the ODFW reports are inconsistent
Tienhaara: “The summery is broken down under headings but then the actual information that is put in under these headings — sometimes they will include GPS information and sometimes they don’t; sometimes they say what pack is in the area, sometimes they don’t. They should be consistent.”
Another frustration she says is that the wolves don’t read nor follow the pack prescribed areas as for example the Imnaha and Chesnimnus pack are continually cross pack territory lines.
Tienhaara: “The wolves aren’t out there reading maps and going, ‘whoops, I better turn around and go back to my known area of wolf activity.’ It is frustrating. I would encourage everybody to go read these reports and keep a score on it.”
