Crop Progress Update for Winter and Spring Wheat

USDA meteorologist Eric Luebehusen shares the national numbers on the winter and spring wheat crops progress. For winter wheat
Luebehusen: “Forty-four percent poor to very poor. That is pretty much where we were this time last week and that is one percentage point worse what we had this time last year. Taking a look at spring wheat, 74 percent rated good to excellent.
Wheat crop conditions in the Pacific Northwest vary. In Idaho winter wheat is 84 percent good to excellent, and 15 percent fair. Idaho’s spring wheat is 78 percent good to excellent.
In Oregon the winter wheat crop 45 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 20 percent poor to very poor. The spring wheat in Oregon is rated 91 percent good to excellent.
And in Washington the winter wheat is 30 percent good to excellent, 44 percent fair and 26 percent poor to very poor. The spring wheat in Washington is rated24 percent good to excellent, 50 percent fair and 26 percent poor to very poor.
Winter wheat harvest has begun in the Southern Plains as USDA meteorologist, Eric Luebehusen explains
Luebehusen: “We’ve seen 16 percent of the winter wheat harvested as of June 15th. That is a seven point change from the last week and again that’s about 6 points ahead of last year but that is actually 4 points behind the five-year average.”
