Low Stress Cattle Handling Video

Washington State University extension has released a new video available to producers interested in low stress cattle handling technique. WSU Extension Animal Sciences Regional Specialist Sarah Smith.

SMITH: It's about a twenty-four minute video that is a recap of the training that we did with Dr. Noffsinger here in the last year that might be of interest for some people.

Dr. Tom Noffsinger is a nationally recognized cattle handling expert and veterinarian from Nebraska who has conducted numerous seminars around the country on how low stress cattle handling not only improves producer safety, morale and retention, but has also been proven to improve animal performance, health, safety, meat quality and the overall perception of the cattle industry. Noffsinger explains why he became interested in low stress cattle handling.

NOFFSINGER: The way we handle cattle sometimes at an auction market, or at a ranch, or at a feed yard actually encourages cattle to hide their true state of health. These skills make vaccines and antibiotics work better.

Smith says the low stress cattle handling video was funded from a WSU Extension Western Center for Risk Management grant, and highlights concepts and techniques with animated computer graphic illustrations, slides and live cattle handling videos. The video is free to watch on-line or producers can request a DVD version for $12.50 by contacting Smith at smithsm@wsu.edu.com.
