New National Potato Board Members Named & RMA Sales Closing Date Reminder

I'm Lacy Gray with Washington Ag Today.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack has appointed 38 members to the National Potato Promotion Board. The board is made up of producers, importers and a public member appointed by the Secretary. It is an industry-funded national research and promotion program authorized under the 1971 Potato Research and Promotion Act to increase U.S. exports and domestic potato consumption. Members serve a three-year term beginning March 1. Of the producers newly appointed to the board six are from Washington state. Brandon Boorman, Brandon Schaapman and Gerald Greenwalt all of Quincy, Myron Hawley of Ferndale, Kerry Heilig of Moses Lake, and Tyler Sorenson from Kennewick. Those producers from Washington who have been reappointed to the board are Rex Calloway from Quincy, Jody Easterday of Pasco and Michael Pink of Mesa.

USDA Risk Management Specialist Jo Lynne Seufer would once again like to remind producers of the fast approaching winter and spring sales closing dates for multiple peril crop insurance programs.

SEUFER: Thank you Lacy. First one around the corner of course is January 31, which those who have a current Adjusted Gross Revenue insurance policy throughout Idaho, Oregon and Washington this is the last day that they can submit required documents to continue that coverage for the 2014 crop year. Another sales closing date of February 3 is the last day to buy or change crop insurance coverage for spring planted onions in Idaho, Oregon and Washington, as well as cabbage in Oregon and Washington. Finally we have our primary vegetable sales closing date spring crops March 17, that's the last day for our producers to buy or change their coverage on all spring seeded multi-peril crop insurance policies.
