The University of Idaho annual field fruit day recently held in the Parma Research Orchards attracted over 350 people on a perfect September sunny morning. Here is Dr. Fahali: "It is so great that we give so many choices to our growers." Do you know that over 100 different varieties of table grapes are now grown in Idaho. This is thanks to years of research by Dr. Fahali and his staff. "24 years ago we started by releasing the first variety and we moved on with more and more." There is also something called alternative fruit. "For alternative fruit, we are just showing them the potential fruit that we can grow in Idaho." Janelle Cirio of Meridian came out to enjoy the day. "it is very good information. I think it is a wonderful experience. The fruit is great and it is nice to try different flavors that I do not normally get in the store, good experience." First time attendant, Kimber Jenkins of Kuna was impressed with the event. "I love it. I am excited to go home and turn these peaches into all kinds of yummy food. We are going to make peach cobbler and fruit leather."
