Sage Grouse Get Assistance

Sage Grouse Get Assistance. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack and Natural Resources Conservation Chief Jason Weller announced a number of recipients of Conservation Innovation Grants on Monday. The Nature Conservancy in Oregon and Idaho received $324,851 to assist in sage-grouse conservation. VILACK: Conservation is a critical component to revitalizing the rural economy. It is also obvious that it’s critical to maintaining the capacity of American agriculture to be productive in the face of changing climates and additional weather conditions. That’s why I’m really proud of the work that Jason and his team have been doing at NRCS. Vilsack says that innovation is a key component to conservation. VILSACK: One of the critical components though for us to maintain our edge in conservation is for us to continue to be innovative. And innovation will be key to managing the capacity to adapt and mitigate the climate changes. It will be key to us continuing to learn and expand on our soil health campaign. Land managers in the northwest’s sagebrush landscape have made significant efforts to improve habitat for the greater sage-grouse and all sagebrush-obligate species. VILSACK: In addition to these awards we are also giving our states an opportunity to set aside 5% of their EQUIP allocation to fund smaller grant programs of up to $75-thousand dollars and 27 states are doing just that. That’s today’s Line On Agriculture. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
