Standing Up For Ethanol

Standing Up For Ethanol. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture. Rocker Neil Young has never been one to shy away from a little controversy and he showed he has a heart of gold for ethanol during a press event in Washington, D.C. Monday with the National Farmers Union. YOUNG: I love ethanol. I love what it smells like. I love the way it makes my car go. Everything about it is great. It’s clean. It cleans the inside of my car up. It’s a beautiful fuel but we don’t have freedom of choice. This is a basic American thing along the federal interstate system. There’s a monopoly in existence.   Young recently traveled cross country in a vehicle powered by cellulosic ethanol and electricity - and says no one is paying him to support biofuels. YOUNG: I’m here because I really see this. This is a disaster. We have a very, very big problem. The CO2 is going to get to be a huge issue in the next couple of years. We have to look forward. Ethanol and other biofuels and cellulosic ethanol and bio-diesel are the answer to this problem.   The Grammy-winning recording artist believes the misinformation campaign against ethanol is fueled by the oil industry. YOUNG: Who are these people who are telling us how dirty and how ethanol is not green? I think it’s the oil companies and the only thing about their product that is green is the money that goes into campaigns that pays for our representative. We have to hold these people to task. They’re our people, they’re our representatives. Please don’t let them forget who they work for. That’s today’s Line On Agriculture. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
