8-26 SS Rods and Reels
Hottest rods and reels for saltwater flyfishing.
Absolutely no disrespect to our great and very frequent correspondent Josh Mills, but in the words of my boss Kelly Allen, to be fair and balanced, sometimes you seek out another opinion. In this case it’s old friend Craig Hennigan from Red’s Fly Shop in Ellensburg Washington, right on the banks of the Yakima River. He sells ‘em and I asked about ‘em. “What is the hottest reel and rod? The hottest rod, the new Sage is coming out, the Method, they are just about the fastest rod made I think and the lightest, the Sage one is pretty sweet the new reels are going to be the Sages that are 6000’s and 8000’s. It is the upper end for saltwater flyfishing. We don’t only fish the Yakima River where we are able to watch the Yakima River from our back door. We fish saltwater, we go to Christmas Island, Ascension Bay, we go to Alaska, the whole ball of wax. When you go saltwater fishing what are you looking for? Tarpon, Permit, bonefish. So you are saying the Sage rod and reel make a nice combination? Great combination. On the lower end, Redington Classic Trout is one of my favorite rods for small water, I use an 8 foot all the time because the Classic Trout is perfect on the Naches with hoppers.
