7-22 SS Pat's Stone
Pat’s stone fly.
Flyfishing expert Josh Mills tells us about a great choice of flies to go nymphing with, Pat’s stone fly: “ If you are searching for a great fly to fish all adaptations, whether it’s trout or steelhead, and you are nymphing, meaning fishing under a strike indicator or bobber, and trying to find fish that are eating nymphal stage of bugs like stone flies, check out the Pat’s stone fly. It is the most simple and yet deadly effective stone fly nymph that you can use. To tie it all you need is a large streamer hook, usually size 6 ought, with chenille but before you put the chenille on, you put some lead body wrap, put on some chenille, five sets of legs that go on the bug and if you look on the Internet and look up Pat’s stone fly, you are going to find one of the best flies for indicator nymph fishing that you can fish winter, summer, fall and spring. Trout really key on it because it is a big wad of protein floating down the stream. Typically I use it as a top bug in a two fly system. The bottom bug is followed by something like a copper John or a hare’s ear or something like that but that Pat’s stone fly knocks them dead 90% of the time. it is very reactive in the water.
