6-24 SS Huge Steelhead

 There are steelhead and then there are steelhead.

 Regular contributor Amy Spoon tells us about a steelhead she caught that can only be described one way… That is a being fish. “ Back in February, I actually caught the fish of my lifetime and probably will never get a fish like this again.  I went on a Valentines fishing trip for a weekend and caught tons of great fish including steelhead. At the very end, I caught a 35 pound steelhead. It was an incredible feeling that I will never forget. Every time I look at a picture of it I feel great. What were you using? It’s funny because we were at a sportsman show and I  had just gotten a bran new rod and that was the first time I used it. I got a brand-new North Fork custom rod and they made me a pink camouflage pole, so I was really excited to use it and that was the whole story behind actually getting out there that weekend. I put 10 pound test on that and I can’t believe that the 10 pound test held the entire time and I got that 35 pound fish in. It was tested to the max. It was close. We were using bait and jigs, no flyfishing. I have never fly fished before. That is one thing on my list of stuff to learn.
