Washington Grain Commission In Elite Company

When you hear Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Paul Allen Foundation you think about the heavy hitters in philanthropic work in Washington state, you can add Washington Grain Commission to that list of big contributors.

The Washington Grain Commission has been recognized by the Washington State University Foundation for its many years of contributions to research and education at WSU.

Earlier this week, Dan Bernardo, dean of the WSU College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences, attended the Washington Grain Commission meeting in Spokane. He shares

Bernardo: “We presented the Grain Commission with the Platinum Award from the WSU Foundation which recognizes our elite donors. So it is the most elite donor recognization that we have at Washington State University and recognizes donations in excess of $10 million.

Bernardo adds that what makes this award so very special is that the Grain Commission contributions reflects the state’s wheat farmers.

Bernardo: “It is from the producers of Washington State, so it is from a large group of folks that really support WSU and have for many, many years.”

In other news Dr. Bernardo has accepted the position of interim Provost at Washington State University as of June first. Dr. Ron Mittelhammer, long time WSU professor and Regents professor of economic science will be serving as the interim dean of the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences while Dr. Bernardo serves as the interim Provost. The national search for a new Provost will begin this fall.
