5-15 IAN Jessie Asparagus

 Agricultural laborers who are happy to have a job.

Jesse Vargus is a farm labor contractor. His company, V Enterprises Incorporated is doing the picking for Sunnyside Farms.  I talked to him about his business: “ We run the agriculture work at farm labor throughout the whole Valley. We are out doing anything we can to support the farmer and keep our community going in the farm work. How many are in your crew and what are they up to? We have anywhere between 20 to 25 people out here cutting asparagus for Sunnyside Farms. Basically we are just happy to have workout here and happy to get the asparagus out and cut and get it to the house where we can clean it up and ready to sell.” We are just happy to have a job. And picking asparagus is just a small part of what Jesse’s crew does for agriculture in Idaho. “We start out putting out pipe, cleaning out canals, ditches, corrugates, we weed onions, potatoes, we do a lot of seed corn towards the Caldwell, Parma area, anything where a farmer needs some labor, we will go out and get it done. Basically everything Idaho has to offer, we will do.”  So no cardboard signs for Jessie’s crew saying will work for food, Vietnam vet, anything helps. Just good old-fashioned American-style hard work for lots of people who didn’t start out in America.
