Oregon Cattlemen's Association Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Back in 1913, a group of 12 ranchers in Baker County Oregon formed an organization to advance the economic, political and social interests of the Oregon Cattle Industry. June 20-22, Oregon cattlemen and women will return to Baker City to celebrate a century of the membership association.

OCA Centennial Celebration Planner Cheryl Martin says there will be many different events happening during the conference celebrating and honoring the past 100 years as well as looking to the future.

There are plenty more activities going on certainly more than this 90 second story can contain: golf-scramble, cow dog clinic as well as a horse clinic in addition to the usual business and committee meetings. A parade on Friday afternoon. Saturday activities options include ranch tours, Baker City historical tour via horse drawn wagon, train ride and a ranch rodeo. Baxter Black will entertain attendees Saturday evening and there will even fireworks display to conclude festivities on Saturday night.

If you haven’t stopped and made your hotel reservations and registered for the event yet, get on it. It will be here soon and Baker City does have a limited number of hotels. Though if you have trouble, finding lodging Martin says.

Martin: “We’ve been working really closely with the Chamber and they have lists of homes that people are willing to rent out rooms and backyard space ... whatever. So I encourage people who can’t get a hotel reservation to call the Baker County Chamber. They will guide them in a way that hopefully we can get accommodations for everybody. That is one of the most important things to do quickly.”
