5-1 SS Long Range
A real firearms expert.
Al Strup is an ex-law enforcement officer who is now a sales associate at the Sportsman’s Warehouse in Puyallup, Washington. I got in touch with him because he does a great deal of long-range shooting, particularly for varmints. Believe me, this guy knows his craft and his craft happens to be guns and shooting.”I shoot long-range for varmints. What kind of varmints and when you say long-range what does that mean? To me long ranges anywhere from as close as I can get out to about 1000 yards. Typically what I want is rock chucks. They are out of Eastern Washington. They are kind of like a wood chuck except they live in the rocks. I shoot two rifles. For my close in stuff, which would be out to 300 yards, I shoot a 22-250 and I also shoot a 223 Remington. Anything after 350 yards I go to my 308 which is the big heavy barrel 308 DPMS. when you are shooting are you handheld or are you using sticks? No no no sometimes I will do a walk around with my light guns and I use shooting sticks which I get out of Africa but most of the time I bench rest my gun on a table because I am shooting so far I have plenty of time to work with the gun.
