4-23 SS AKC Lou

4-23 SS AKC Lou

Yesterday you heard Wade Kisner describe the early days with his English Setter Lou who was  given to him by a good friend.  Lou not only was not the pick of the litter, he was the runt, a dog that even his owner described as a cull. Well the moral to this story is that you should never give up on someone or something based on how they look. What comes to my mind is the term late bloomer. “ Lou as gone on to achieve some significant goals, right?  Early on when I hunted him his 1st season when he would have been 6 months old I recognize he had a gift. He had a ways to go and would get better but I could also tell that he was going to turn out to be something special. 5 years later he has done that. Last Sunday  he finished his 6th leg of is AKC master hunter title. Anyone who has done that knows is a tough and grueling set of tests. It takes a lot of training and some luck depending on the conditions of the birds and scenting conditions for dogs. Some days the dogs are on and some days they are not. We were able to get him through it and have found out since, he got the title last Sunday, and he is the only English Setter to ever get this title in the state of Iowa.
