4-17 SS Black Bear
One of the qualities we love most about working with Sportsman’s Warehouse in the Northwest is the fact that their sales associates are not only outdoorsmen themselves, but have special knowledge of the Northwest. That means that they know what they are talking about when they service a customer. Want to go bear hunting? Camping sales specialist Alex Machado knows about bears, believe me. He was looking for a black bear that a friend had wounded while hunting down near Medford Oregon. “ We look up and up against the tree is a big black bear which is approximately 425 pounds and I had 2 knives with me and the bear actually pops up and starts moving towards us, it was a wounded bear and it wanted to hurt me so I kept my eyes on it with my knives ready. It lunged at me and bit my right arm and at that point, I stabbed it In the back of the neck. It released and then bit me on my hand. I yanked my handout and it bit my groin. when it was kicking its head back and forth, we tumbled down the hill and started rolling around together and I was still holding on. When it finally released I fell to the bottom of the ravine on my stomach and the bear landed on top of me.”
After a few more moments of wrestling around, Alex’s friend came to the rescue and shot the bear. Alex called 911 and search and rescue came to is aid. today he is none the worse for the incident, says he will go bear hunting again, but as I said in the beginning, this is the kind of real life experience that so many Sales Associates from Sportsman’s Warehouse bring to the table. They don’t just talk the talk, they walk the walk.
