Pacific Northwest Jr. Angus Member Wins Both Bronze and Silver Awards

I’m KayDee Gilkey with today’s Open Range.

I first met Wilbur high school senior, JD Rosman last fall as he was selected as one of the two first Washington Association of Wheat Growers, Wheat Ambassadors. An articulate and poised 17-year old JD plans to major in ag communications at Oklahoma State University this fall.

Not only involved in his family’s wheat operation, Rosman also runs his own small registered Angus herd. He recently earned the National Junior Association’s Bronze and Silver awards.

Rosman: “Being able to get the Bronze and Silver award is really kind of a cool deal just because you do get to go back and see how you’ve done over the years and how much you’ve progressed. I look forward to filling out my gold award application and hopefully getting that when I’m 21.”

Receiving these awards is not an easy task as jr angus members must apply for the awards, then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Rosman shares more details about his Angus involvement.

Rosman: “I started my own herd, Rosman Angus, in 2005. I’ve got a small ten head operation -- hopefully after college that can grow a little bit more. I’ve sold a couple of bulls to local producers around here. I’ve shown anywhere from the county stage to national levels at the Denver show, Reno, Moses Lake and Filer Idaho.”
