Cowboys to be Recognized & State Passes Financial Aid Bill

Cowboys to be Recognized & State Passes Financial Aid Bill. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

Washington State is about to recognize the cowboy thanks to Washington Senator Sharon Brown who is sponsoring a senate resolution as part of the National Day of the Cowboy effort.

BROWN: On April 11th we are going to be doing a Senate Resolution which I’ve sponsored which is honoring National Day of the Cowboy. We’re going to be doing it in conjunction with Beef Day here on the hill which will be very exciting because that’s the day when the beef producers come and flip burgers on the hill.

A handful of state have already passed permanent bills naming July 27th as National Day of the Cowboy. Senator Brown says after this resolution they will look at passing it in perpetuity. Now what about Oregon and Idaho?

And Washington State’s House has approved a measure making young illegal immigrants eligible for state college financial aid. The measure which is dubbed the “Washington Dream Act” to echo federal legislation of that name intended to provide legal status to young immigrants, is one of the main bills being lobbied by immigrant advocates this year. The bill now moves to the state Senate, where a similar bill did not get a hearing.

Now getting ready for fire season. Rod Bain reports.
