Rhinehart's Mules
We used to have some wild and crazy chariot racers at our local fair. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll tell you about one of those racers right after this. Rhinehart was one of the local characters that ran teams in the fair time chariot races. But Rhinehart was different from the normal chariot racer in our area he practiced once a year. Now there is some little quirk in the attitude of chariot racers that forbids them from hooking up trained horses for their teams. Or maybe it's something about that little cart that makes horses think it's a cougar on wheels. Well whatever the reason chariot races were always interesting. Now Rhinehart was like all chariot racershe was always looking for something special in his teams but this time he went just one little step over the line. This practice Rhinehart hooked up a mule team. Any lesser hand would have never got the almost half-broke mules in harness and attached to the chariot. Rhinehart stepped into the chariot, started the mules, and then made the small mistake of asking the mules for more speed. The practice session disintegrated rapidly. The mules made one more lap around the track and then decided to go on tour. Rhinehart knew danger when he saw it streaking by at mule warp speed and started pulling on the lines until he had the mules mouths open clear to their laid back ears. When asked if that slowed them down Rhinehart said no way it just gave them more air for more speed. I'm Jeff Keane.
