1-31 IAT Silo Safety

1-31 IAT Silo Safety

Suffocation in a silo. I am David Sparks...

There was an article recently in the Idaho statesman discussing the fact that silo safety had to be very carefully administered. There had been a number of people smothered inside grain silos. This was very disturbing to me personally, so I called Travis Jones, executive director of the Idaho grain  producers and asked If there had been any tragedies  in Idaho. “  Yes there have been a couple. There was one not long ago, near Idaho Falls, and I know there have been a couple in these last 5 or 6 years. Mike Erickson works for McGregor which is a company that teaches about being safe around grain bins. How does a guy get suffocated inside a grain bin when he knows that grain is coming. A guy is inside cleaning the crusty rain off the sides and he is standing on top of grain and it’s almost like quick sand.”
