1-30 IAT Dairy Responsibility

The dairy industry. even though they have faced extremely difficult times, to the point where you might argue they are under siege, still are operating with a sustainable future and with honor.     Believe it or not, with huge input costs and  generated revenue just barely matching what it costs to do business, the dairy industry has responded to environmental needs. Jeff Williams, the president and CEO of Glanbia Foods in Twin Falls gave me some pretty impressive facts the other day that increased my respect and admiration for Idaho’s dairy producers. See if you don’t agree with me. “Dairy Management Inc. is funded by checkoff money from dairy farmers and they are really driving the sustainability effort on the farm because 75% to 80% of the carbon footprint, the greenhouse gases and all that are behind the farm gate.. It really starts with the cow and they are really on board to try and reduce the carbon footprint in the entire dairy industry by 2020. That is a lofty goal. I don’t know of many industries that can match that.
