2-1 IAT State of Dairy

2-1 IAT State of Dairy

Milk picture looks a lot brighter.

I called Jeff Williams, Chief Executive Officer and President of Glanbia foods  and had a long conversation about a number of issues. Given the hard times in the Dairy Industry over the past few years, I asked for his view On the state of the dairy industry  in Idaho. “If there is a silver lining to the downturn, it is that the good operators got better. They have looked at their businesses and said how am I going to survive. Lo and behold, they have. They have looked at every single cost and uncovered  every single rock that they could to see how they could run their businesses better. The cows have never looked better and the milk is as good quality as I have ever seen. They are operating there dairies very well and just need a little help with lower costs on the feed side for a little bump on the revenue line. Milk is in very good shape with Ciaboni coming in and they’re are dairymen from other parts of the country that are looking at Idaho again. There was a 4 year stretch where nobody was looking at Idaho.
