Vote for Pacific NW Farmer to Be One of the Faces of Ag

I’m KayDee Gilkey with today’s Open Range.

One of the nine national finalists in the U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance Faces of Farming and Ranching contest is a Oregon farmer, Brenda Kirsch.

Kirsch: “I started a blog last January www.nuttygrass.com is the blog. I’ve been able to write about every aspect of the farm and tell people about how their food is grown. But also tell people about the family side, how we are just regular people as well trying to run a business. Give the more personal side of the story as well.”

Kirsch is also active on Facebook and Twitter. She is a third-generation farmer from St. Paul, Oregon who raises grass seed, hazelnuts, wheat, green beans, squash, and clover.

You can help her become one of the Faces of Farming and Ranching by voting for her online at fooddialogues.com. You can vote once a day and the last day to vote is this Saturday, the 15th.

Kirsch applauds this effort of U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance to proactively promote agriculture.

Kirsch: “I think this something that we’ve needed for a long time to show that as agriculture we are a united front. We are not ashamed of what we are doing and we are proud of what we are doing. This is such an excellent way of getting our message out there.”

Winners will be announced in January 2013 and will share their stories on a national stage through potential media interviews, consumer-facing public appearances and events and advertising campaigns.
