Foodbank Needs

Foodbank Needs

Welcome to Open Range, I’m KayDee Gilkey. Stay tuned because after the break I’ll check in with our field reporter, Greg Martin for the AgriBeef Minute.

I’m Greg Martin with today’s AgriBeef Minute. It’s the time of year that we tend to think a bit more about giving. Jenifer Johnson, Vice President of the Idaho Foodbank discusses what kinds of needs they have at present.

JOHNSON: At this time of year we still have a goal of needing about 1500 to about 2000 holiday meats and that’s turkeys, roasts and hams to help with families for their holiday meal. So that is really a last minute push.

Johnson says they make it easy for people to donate.

JOHNSON: People can drop off any kind of perishable or non-perishable food donation to our warehouse in Boise or Pocatello or Lewiston anytime Monday through Friday, 8-5. In the Treasure Valley area the Les Schwab stations are all accepting perishable and non-perishable food donations. There are a lot of food drives happening around the Valley as well.

Cash is also always a welcome donation.

JOHNSON: We are a very efficient organization. For every dollar donated we can acquire and redistribute enough food for three meals and 93-cents out of every dollar goes directly to serve our program and mission. We use it quickly and we use it efficiently and we use it the way the donor asks us to. If they want us to use it for a specific program or in a specific part of the state we will do that, we will honor that.

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m KayDee Gilkey.
