9-3 FB Otter on Drought

9-3 FB Otter on Drought

I wish we didn’t have to use the D word so much, but drought is on everybody’s mind. Gov. Otter has a fairly positive spin on drought when we come back.

In talking with Gov. Otter I brought up the subject of drought and asked him if Idaho, which is not as badly stricken as most of the rest of the country, could ultimately benefit in terms of agriculture. As always, his response and opinion is considered and knowledgeable.   “We already have a couple of counties that we have declared as drought disasters and have put the feds on notice but once again by modifying some of our graze where we have fire resistant and drought resistant seeds that we are now using in order to build a fire line buffers for protection for the rest of the habitat, I think it’s going to be good. We have had a run now for 3 years of great cattle and feedstock prices. One person’s disaster can be another’s valuable credit. It all comes to supply. Overall I think we are going to have a good year in agriculture because Idaho has good agriculturalists.
