8-28 SS Experience

8-28 SS Experience

A recent  family outing involving sporting clays with a very unusual, yet not unexpected outcome.

Here’s to experience. My boss, Kelly Allen, and various members of his family, all of whom are very competitive, extremely experienced outdoorsmen and great athletes, not necessarily in that order went on an outing to the Treo Ranches  in North Central Oregon. Treo Ranches is an outfitting operation specializing in chukar and pheasant hunting along with sporting clays. And speaking of sporting clays, there was a good old family competition which included Kelly, his sons and his father-in-law who is a seasoned veteran and octogenarian ( if you know what that means). let’s pick up the story with Treo Ranches owner and operator, Phil Carlson.  “Is it true that an 80-year-old man cannot shoot? ( Laughter)  except that he beat everybody. It was a sporting clay scores and we shot a round of clays, 100 per person, and some of them are pretty competitive. Expand a little bit on what we shall call a senior shooter who did pretty well for himself. I would say that he hit more than anybody so I would call the senior more experienced. You could tell that he was a real genuine bird hunter because he didn’t miss much. So a good time was had by all but the grand Petrone won it all. Yes. Experience rules.
