Want to compete in quarter horse racing? If so get ready to mix it up with the drug cartels. I’m Susan Allen when Open Range returns  A  New York Times Reporter  exposes the underbelly of Quarter Horse racing in the West . I hate to keep dogging on horse racing but we need to stop turning a blind eye to corruption, the sport needs a transformation to remain relevant specially after the latest expose by  a gutsy reporter for the New York Times, Ginger Thompson who  takes  on  Mexican Cartel, by calling  a spade a spade. In her scathing  report she wrote  “Newcomers rarely make it into the winner’s circle  at the All American Futurity, considered the Kentucky Derby of quarter horse racing. Yet September of 2010 a beaming band of men waving Mexican Flags and miniature piñatas swept in to Ruidoso New Mexico to claim the million –dollar prize with a long shot colt. “ Thompson  discovered  that  quarter horse racing is  a money-laundering business for Mexican cartels like the infamous Zeta’s .  She found that Mexican trainers sneak horses in across the border to avoid quarantines and inspections.  The Trevino family ,made up of some of the most wanted drug traffickers in the world have built Tremor Enterprises, their Oklahoma ranch alone houses an estimated 300 stallions and mares,  300!  The feds recently acknowledged this breeding enterprise  has allowed the cartel to launder millions of dollars in drug money. Tremor Enterprises just happened to win AQHA racing industries biggest races over the last few years. With this much money, power  and illegal influence one has to wonder if the  quarter horse remain America’s horse?
