6-1 SS Outfitter Nightmare
I was reading a copy of a hunting magazine when ran across a story about a guy who had taken a Rocky Mountain Big Horn. He told about the adventure and thanked his friend outfitter John Andre for great advice. Long story short, I called John who owned Shoshone Wilderness Adventures and found out that he had lost millions of dollars in his investments in the outdoor business. John claims that a lot of outdoorsmen who are guides and outfitters are also going out of business. His explanation follows. It is controversial but I thought I’d give his side of the story. “I wrote a book. It is called USA versus ESA… The politically incorrect side of the endangered species act of 1973. When I started looking at the endangered species act I was going to write a book originally on the economic damage being done in Wyoming, Idaho and Montana by the wolves. I changed the focus of the book to the overall economic damage being done by the Endangered Species Act, not just wolves here in the West. The point of all this is that what has happened in the Game and Fish Departments and the US Fish and Wildlife, and this analogy was told to me by Jim Beirs who was a former, 30 something year, high up officer in the US Fish and Wildlife, he said that they have stopped hiring hunters and instead are hiring environmentalists who don’t believe in predator control but believe instead in the natural balance.”
