6-4 SS Kids Fishing

6-4 SS Kids Fishing

While kids under the age of 14 always get to fish for free, Free Fishing Day is the one time each year when Idaho adults can fish without a license too. This year the event falls on this Saturday, June 9th.  Everyone gets to fish free, the real point of the day is to help expose kids to the fun of fishing.  All too often, kids these days are enamored with all things electronic, video games, Facebook, texting on their cell phones. We need to get kids into the outdoors. And even though this is an Idaho event, the thinking is not restricted to Idaho kids. This is a story for all kids… get them involved in the outdoors. Here is Idaho Fish and Game spokesperson Greg Losinski:  “What we are seeing unfortunately is that kids are not being brought out to the outdoors these days. Something like fishing does require that somebody go someplace to a spot that has water and fish and it also requires lots of times that the adult have experience and a license and those can be factors that stop the kids from getting that experience. So this fund free fishing day is a way that you can get out there and help you teach a kid the fish. But we have found that kids, if you expose them, even if they don’t catch a fish, they are still out there splashing around and having a good time in the outdoors. We just not getting them out as much as we used to because of the busy lives we are all leading.
