5-30 SS Field of Dreams
Got a dog that you think can hunt? Need to give it a try out? How about Field trial competition? Field of Dreams boarding and training kennel is owned and operated by Kirsten and Paul Fulk. I saw their booth at the last sportsmen’s show in Portland, Oregon and was impressed. I called Kirsten up because I heard she ran some interesting competitions. “At Field of Dreams we host the Oregon bird dog challenge which is a tournament hunt for upland hunting and there are labs and spaniels and pointing dogs all compete, in the singles division the pointers don’t compete against the flushing breeds which would be the retrievers and the spaniels, it is a timed event, they have a certain number of birds in their quota and have 15 min. to find them and the dog has to find them and either point at them if they are in the pointing division or flush them if they are in the flushing division and then they have to retrieve them, and the guys play for qual points, number of dogs defeated over the year, they get ribbons every tournament that we run once a month from April through September. We have a big banquet down here in September and we give out the High Point dog awards which is a silver belt buckle. That is what they are basically playing for. We also do a state chucker championship which is at that last tournament of the year. Those are trophies. My guess would be that if a dog performs extremely well, the status and the stature of that dog goes up and then would be more valuable as a sire or… Yes. Some of the guys are doing it for that but the majority of the people that attend just like to watch good dog work.
