4-30 SS Miriam 1
The tradition of hunting between parent and child continues. It’s exciting and endearing. I will tell you about the process of going on a turkey hunt together next.
Rick Littrell and his son Brett recently went on a turkey hunt. They were looking for Miriam’s but before we get to the hunt, listen to Rick talk about his boy and you tell me if this is how our wonderful tradition of hunting in this country can be continued and sustained. “He’s a 10-year-old and got his hunting license this last fall and he finally got to be the hunter. He has been hunting with me since he was 2 years old. I used to Pat came around on my back in a Kelty pack. We would go turkey hunting and everything else. The minute he got old enough to handle himself he was always just packing along with me. This was so exciting this year because he actually got to be the hunter. The whole thing about the Saturday hunt we did was that we got on the hill I little bit late because my daughter had a soccer game in the morning and we knew that the bigger birds usually get active after the hens go on nest which is later in the day. We were planning on that and we got to the hill and I told him, “Buddy this is your hunt. You tell me where you want to go, how you want to set up, when we want to call, and all that. So we get to this area and he said he wanted to get on this ridge line and start calling off the ridge line so we made the hike and got on the ridge line. We threw out a few calls and got a response.” What a response they got. We’ll get to that tomorrow.
