Dairy industry picture not so rosy after all.

I had an interesting experience. I had to have some Windows replaced in my house and there was a very nice guy who did the work. I asked him about his background and he told me that he had grown up in the dairy business with his father, Brian Schuldies. He gave me his dad’s number and I called Brian  to talk about his business: “We go from weaned calves to springers 2 months prior to calving they are weaned off milk and we raise them for about 20 months, 2 months prior to their 1st calf is called a springer. Right now we are just going to producers. They go through the ring and the auction is run by the auctioneer. How are things going in the dairy industry? It is terrible and the dairy men are going to go broke. I don’t know how they are hanging on now. There is just too much milk. They need to wean some of them out now. You mean there is too much milk being produced? Absolutely. And prices are not good? They are $2-$3 per hundred under what it costs to produce. Is there a ripple effect on your business? Oh absolutely. We are going to get out of the business. I don’t know what were going to do. Maybe fire my little, think around, play golf.
