Death Tax Repeal & Farm Bill Action

Death Tax Repeal & Farm Bill Action. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

Easter is just around the corner but a lot of politicians see it as a breaking point. Look for farm bill action in the U-S Senate soon after the Easter recess, according to longtime ag Senator Chuck Grassley. Grassley says if a farm bill is going to happen this year, one has to start to move in the Senate ag Committee, in the next few weeks.

GRASSLEY: Some time after the Easter recess - so that recess starts next week so sometime around the middle or later in April and obviously I support the chairwoman's decision to get the ball rolling, the sooner the better if we’re going to get a Farm Bill this year.

South Dakota Senator John Thune has introduced the Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act, S. 2242, to abolish the federal estate tax, something agriculture has been working toward for decades. The death tax is detrimental to the farmers and ranchers who live off the land and run asset-rich, cash poor family-owned small businesses. The appraised value of rural land is extremely inflated when compared to its agricultural value.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange report.
