2-24 IAN Smart Nitrogen

2-24 IAN Smart Nitrogen

Nitrogen granules that respond to the same environmental factors that regulate plant growth…that sounds awfully neat. We’ve all heard of smart phones but now along comes smart fertilizers and smart nitrogen. I heard about this product made by ESN. It said that smart nitrogen acts as a slow release product and feeds plants the right amounts of nitrogen when the plants needed it. It’s like one of those time released pain capsules or sleep medicines. You watch on TV and you see the time lapse photography. So I just had to know more and called up ESN  the spokesperson Jason Kuhlemeier.  The 1st thing I asked was what makes this nitrogen smarter than regular nitrogen.  “ESN SMART NITROGEN is the only controlled-release nitrogen source widely available in agriculture.” The next question to Jason was how does it work?  “A unique, micro-thin polymer coating encapsulates a urea granule, protecting the nitrogen from all loss mechanisms. The coating allows water through the membrane to dissolve the nitrogen inside. Then, the coating allows this urea solution to filter out through the membrane into the soil at a rate that is controlled by soil temperature, delivering the right amounts of readily available

nitrogen to the growing crop when it needs it most.”
