1-25 IAN Onion/Potato Waste
When you consider all of the potatoes that are grown and processed in the state of Idaho, it is almost mind boggling. But then throw in the immense number of acres under plant for onions. All of that is a good thing, don’t you agree? However, there is a dark side to processing all of this food. I’m David’s bike back in a moment. Mike Lally is the owner of EnviroTech Systems. He owns the technology that’s associated with what he calls a very unique approach to anaerobic digestion. In a state that produces a lot of onions and potatoes, he may be bringing something pretty important to the table. “Onion waste in an anaerobic digester, people may laugh at that, but a lot of water is used in the processing of onions, potatoes are another waste stream, the processing of potatoes, so it is not just a waste stream that is livestock oriented, is in the production and manufacturing and the process of food processing. What ever that waste stream is and the other thing is pharmaceutical goods, pulp and paper waste, dairy manufacturing like butter, cheese, and milk processing there is an exorbitant amount of water many millions of gallons go through the processing while making cheese and those kinds of things. Our system is so unique it does not have any internal parts. It is a free-flowing system which makes it very unique.
