1-24 IAN Farmer Talk
You know what drives me absolutely crazy, and I don’t mean this in a fun way, farmers and ranchers, who feed our nation by going to work, hard, each and every day, always seem to have to prove themselves to the public. If politicians came under the same scrutiny as farmers and ranchers, this would be a much better country to live and believe me. Enough rant. These days - farmers and ranchers often hear they need to do a better job of telling their stories to curious and sometimes concerned consumers. Melissa Kinch is a member of the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance communications team. The alliance was formed to help farmers and ranchers communicate more effectively to consumers and other important audiences. She insists that farmers and ranchers have to reach out to the general public. They say farmers and ranchers need to make sure they’re part of the conversation about what they grow and what people eat.
“We think that there is an opportunity for ranchers and farmers to lead this dialogue versus being on the outside looking in. We need to be reactive and answer questions, really being at the heart of it asking consumers and others to join us at the table in order to have the conversations that need to be had in order to build trust.” Hey farmers and ranchers, try this. Be polite, don’t kiss up, but stop producing. I wonder how politically correct all of us will be when we’re starving in the absence of your services.
