1-17 FB Chinese Catfish

China has become known as one of the biggest producer/ manufacturers in the world’s economy. There are all kinds of interpretations of their massive presence. A lot of our jobs go to China, we send an awful lot of money to China, and according to aquaculturist Chip Holmes who farms almost 2,000,000 pounds of catfish a year, China may be sending us something we may not particularly want.  “Innovation is happening and it has been good this year, a couple of years ago it was awful, it was awful for 3 or 4 years maybe 5, partly because of the imports from Vietnam and China, the Chinese fish is not so bad but you can Google Dr. Engles from University of Arkansas and she can tell you about trips that she has made to China and talks about the chemicals that they use to import the Chinese fish. They have our genetics, we send the PhD’s over to China to tell them how to grow that fish, it is a good fish but we don’t know so much about the chemicals they use. Now, the fish out of Vietnam are a totally different story.”  We will take that on tomorrow.
