1-16 FB Agritourism

Quickly. Why do people want to come and visit Idaho? Has to be the mountain’s, right? Nope. Make that the hunting, the fishing, or perhaps the rushing rivers. Wait a minute. I forgot about Boise, Twin Falls, Idaho falls, our universities. Those are all good reasons but I have another one when I come back.

The Idaho division of Tourism is going to launch a website connecting the dots between local restaurants, hotels, farmers markets and farms in an effort to promote Agritourism. Here is Boise  Convention and Visitors Bureau Director of Sales, Terry Kopp: “To the west of us is a very rich farming area, and there have been some wineries that have cropped up, years ago St. Chapelle  was the 1st winery and then slowly but surely there have been some more wineries crop up, there is an Idaho Wine Association and just that one part of agri-tourism is attractive to visitors. They think of Idaho as having potatoes they don’t think of us as having great wine but actually we do. There are 60 cash crops that are grown over there.  The mint that ends up being in Wrigley’s  gum is grown there and that kind of industry is becoming more interesting to visitors.”
