12-28 SS Dream Hunting

With an airplane and a little travel money hunting can be a dream. Regular correspondent Bill Burnett talks about the days when he hunted a gigantic ranch loaded with game. Listen in and dream like Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.  “A fraternity brother of mine, in fact everybody and his family, including his mother, had their pilot’s license and they had a little plain that they would fly around. That was all a result of his grandfather, John Myers, who was one of the original test pilots for the Air Force. This was during World War II and he flew with a lot of the prominent pilots such as Chuck Yeager and worked with gentlemen like Al Lockheed. Over the years he had acquired this tremendous ranch right at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains where they come down and turn into rolling oak hills. They had a great contiguous piece of property with a 7000 foot landing strip. We would take off out of Santa Monica in a little single engine and fly up through the Central Valley. When we got to the property, what really made this such a great ranch for pig hunting and bird hunting was the ranch to the south of the property had 250,000 pistachio trees. We would catch the pigs moving from the rolling oak foothills across his property through the creek bottoms and down into the pistachios. And that really made for some tremendous hunting.
