More Idaho Wind Turbines & Food Safety. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

One of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack’s talking points has been on clarifying responsibilities and improving accountability to strengthen the nation’s food safety system. He says part of preventing foodborne illnesses is public education and improved food safety advice.

VILSACK: We are making sure that folks understand how to properly handle, cool and save food. With our efforts focusing on clean, separate, cook and chill. We’re also using social medium more effectively to alert consumers about on-going recalls so that they can make appropriate decisions for their families. We are collecting information in a public health information system that will allow us to better detect situations and data that will allow us to identify problems before they become significant as we work with public health officials across the United States.

A new deal struck between Utah-based developer Cedar Creek Wind, Rocky Mountain Power and the Idaho Public Utilities Commission should see more wind turbines being erected in Bonneville County totaling some 120 megawatts of power. The groups had been feuding since last year but the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission intervened and helped clear the way for the new construction.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange report.
