9-27 IAN Raising Bison

InterMountain Beef is a family owned and operated feedlot which occupies 200 acres in the heart of the Magic Valley, 12 miles East of Twin Falls. InterMountain Beef was founded in 1946 by Henry Jones and Jones Livestock and the feeding tradition is now continued by Henry's family. The 12,000 head feedlot is now managed by Cevin Jones. Intermountain is a Custom Feeding business, but they also buy feeder cattle, forward contract and partnership feed. In addition to finishing they also background cattle of all classes and weights. Cevin says they have another product that may be of interest.“We custom feed, feed our own cattle, and also feed bison,  that is something we got into around 2004.”

And got into it in a big way. The Bison Feeding divison of InterMountain Beef is a 3,000 head facility complete with modern bison handling and processing facilities. The feeding pens, which vary in capacity from 30 to 150 head, are designed to encourage maximum performance from bison brought in to them. Feed bunks and water tanks include wide platforms for easy animal access and cable adjustment at the feedbunk to accommodate weights varying from 200 to 2000 lbs.
