02/23/05 Red Bluff bull sale

Red Bluff 2005 The Red Bluff Bull Sale was held January 28th and 29th 2005. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll be back with some details right after this. The Red Bluff Bull Sale in Red Bluff, California held its 64th annual sale this January. I can remember when I first started looking at livestock magazines reading articles and advertisements about Red Bluff. As a kid, it seemed to me that it must be a really special event and it is to have lasted this long. This year bulls, horses, mules, and stock dogs were sold for over 1.5 million dollars. 301 bulls sold for $802,000 with a Hereford bull bringing the top price of $5,900. The Pacific Northwest was well represented as Bill Bennett of Connell, Washington had the overall champion bull of the show, which was also a Hereford. Other bull breed champi0ns came from Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The 107 horses brought over $641,000 with the top sale horse owned by Wayne and Jody Cada of Caldwell, Idaho selling for $21,700. A total of $53,250 was paid for 12 stock dogs and pups. The top selling stock dog, Rebel, a Border Collie owned by Sandi Newton of Red Bluff sold for $10,500 to benefit Water for Life, an advocacy group for ranch irrigation. A smart dog like that should have been named Enviro, and then an environmentalist would have actually contributed to irrigation. Think about it. I'm Jeff Keane. Capital Press 2/4/ 05
